Rhino Ventures and Graphite Ventures led the round for the Calgary-based firm, while Alberta Enterprise Corporation and Alberta Innovates also participated.
Talking point: Ontopical will use the funding to hire workers and further develop its AI-powered platform, which lets users track government proceedings in municipalities across North America. The company is led by CEO Clayton Feick, former chief revenue officer at financial-data firm Flinks, which National Bank acquired for $103 million in 2021, and Derrick Koenig, former president at Shopless.ca. The company said its platform can help companies detect upcoming contract opportunities in areas like telecom or construction, for example, or stay on top of legislative changes and public hearings. The seed extension increases Ontopical’s total funding to date to over $6 million.
